The ST01 Chromium-6 Swab Test is designed for on-site screening of Cr(VI) in insulation materials and (turbine) engines. It is particularly suited to situations where Cr(VI) may have formed due to elevated temperatures, such as contact between chromium-bearing materials and calcium-containing insulation.
Contents of the ST01 Chromium-6 Swab Test #
- 30 test sticks for hard-to-reach locations.
- 1 bottle of test liquid for rapid Cr(VI) detection.
- 1 control sample for validation of test results.
Important limitations #
Not suitable for dry paint. The ST01 swab test is not reliable for dry paint surfaces. Metallic zinc in the coating can reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III), causing false-negative results.
Indicative result. A positive colour reaction indicates the presence of Cr(VI), but laboratory analysis is required for a definitive and quantitative result.
When in doubt. A negative result does not rule out the presence of Cr(VI). In those cases, use the SEEF TK01 Cr(VI) Test Kit or submit a sample for laboratory analysis.
Applications #
- Inspection of insulation on (turbine) engines and combined heat and power (CHP) installations.
- Situations where chromium-bearing materials are in contact with calcium-containing insulation at elevated temperatures.
