WT01 – Chrome-6 Wipe Test Kit for Insulation, Turbines and CHP Engines

The WT01 Wipe Test Kit is specially developed for professionals looking for a quick initial indication of chromium-6 in high-temperature insulation materials, turbines, and CHP engines. Compared to the ST01 Swab Test, the WT01 covers a larger area per measurement (10 x 10 cm), which reduces the likelihood of false negative results. Even with a negative test result, caution is still advised. Therefore, always use the test in combination with the SEEF TK01 Chrome-6 Test Kit or a SEEF Cr(VI) laboratory analysis.

Also applicable for dry paint?

No, preferably not. The wipe test is less suitable for dry paint, as this matrix is more prone to false negative results due to matrix interference. This can happen, for example, when chromium-6 is reduced to chromium-3 under the influence of metallic zinc, causing the chromium-6 present to go undetected. A positive result can be taken as an indication that chromium-6 is present, but it remains just that: an indication. For a definitive and reliable result, we always recommend a laboratory analysis. This not only confirms the presence of chromium-6, but also allows the amount to be reliably quantified. The amount of chromium-6 present determines which safety measures are required. At certain concentrations, stricter requirements apply to technical measures, organizational measures, and, finally, personal protective equipment. 1. Preparation: Make sure the surface to be tested is easily accessible. The machine parts must also be below 50 degrees Celsius. Try to disturb the existing insulation as little as possible, since movement can release chromium-6-containing dust into the air. Always hire a professional if you are not familiar with this process.
2. Sampling: Wipe the surface to be tested to collect a representative sample. Test between the insulation mattress and the steel component, or on the inside of the insulation mattress.
3. Interpreting results: Read the results according to the included instructions. If the wipe does not change color, chromium-6 may still be present. Follow up with the SEEF TK01 or have a laboratory analysis performed.

The WT01 Wipe Test Kit is ideal for use in industrial and construction settings where insulation materials or motors are tested. Note that this test is only indicative. Use the TK01 for a reliable result.

1. Step 1: Use the WT01 for a quick, low-cost indication. A positive result confirms the presence of Cr(VI).
2. Step 2: No discoloration? Use the TK01 to perform a reliable on-site analysis. Still no discoloration? Then you can proceed safely.
